A growing number of WhatsApp users are running into serious issues with the app. Over the past several days, reports have surfaced on Reddit and X (formerly Twitter) from people who say their accounts have been banned or they’re suddenly unable to log in. Naturally, this is causing confusion and frustration across the board.
Some of those affected are seeing a message that reads, “This account can no longer use WhatsApp,” while others are hitting roadblocks during the account verification process. For many trying to set up a new account, the app throws up an error like “Login not available right now,” making it impossible to access the service at all.
One Reddit user, Quiet_Series_5816, shared that their account was banned despite only using WhatsApp occasionally for voice and video calls with a family member. They were left puzzled and searching for information about how long bans typically last. Another user, qarmand, also received a ban notice that referenced spam activity, but was fortunate enough to have their account reinstated after submitting a review request, which took roughly 10 hours.
What seems to be adding fuel to the fire is the lack of clear, helpful communication from WhatsApp’s support team. Several users say they received automated replies directing them to get help through the app itself—something that’s obviously not an option if the app is locked or banned. This frustrating loop has left many unable to get real answers or assistance.
This isn’t the first time WhatsApp users have experienced a sudden wave of bans. A similar issue was reported late last year, when a cluster of bans seemed to disproportionately affect older iPhone models. Just a few months later, another round of unexplained bans left more users confused and locked out.
There’s plenty of speculation about what’s causing the current wave of bans and login errors. Some users reported it could be connected to VPN usage, certain network conditions, or using virtual phone numbers. Others suspect it may be an internal WhatsApp glitch. A few have had success by uninstalling and reinstalling the app, or by downloading it directly from WhatsApp’s website instead of an app store. For some, as mentioned, switching SIM cards and activating the account on a different device also appeared to help.
While a handful of users have managed to regain access to their accounts after a brief wait or a successful appeal, others are still locked out and struggling to get support. For people who rely on WhatsApp to stay in touch with family or manage business communications, the situation is particularly stressful. Many are now hoping for faster responses, more transparent support, and a permanent fix from WhatsApp.
