Discord may soon offer users a more direct way to report problematic content within servers. A newly spotted test feature suggests users could soon flag messages directly to their server’s moderation team rather than routing everything to Discord’s central Trust & Safety department, which currently handles violations of platform-wide rules.
The experimental feature was revealed via screenshots shared in the Discord Previews channel. In these previews, a new option called “Report to Mod” appears alongside the usual “Report Message” function when users interact with a message.
The process looks user-friendly: after clicking “Report to Mod,” users can choose a reason such as “Harassment” or “Breaking the server rules,” and then review the message before submitting. The feature also introduces a new “Reports” tab in the server menu, which shows alerts so moderators can promptly view and respond to issues.
Initial reactions from users on Reddit have been largely positive. One user, YouKnowImDead, said, “That’s useful for mods.” Another, judge2020, added, “Probably a good in-between for small servers who just need a quick way to get notified of reports, but don’t need a full ticket/investigation system which bots can still do.”
If fully implemented, this tool could significantly streamline moderation on Discord. Right now, flagging messages sends reports to Discord’s central team, which can lead to slow responses. Allowing server mods to handle local issues themselves could speed up moderation and improve community safety, benefiting both users and moderators alike.
That said, this feature is still in testing. As with any experimental rollout, there’s a chance it could be shelved before a wider release. Discord hasn’t officially confirmed whether or when this “Report to Mod” feature might be introduced broadly. Still, the positive buzz around it may encourage Discord to move forward with development.
