A frustrating issue has surfaced for Samsung Galaxy users following the rollout of the One UI 7 update. Many have reported receiving a persistent and incorrect SIM card error notification, despite their SIM cards being properly installed and their devices maintaining normal cellular service.
Users on various Samsung forums and Reddit have shared that a notification from the Setup Wizard app claims the SIM card is either missing or incorrectly installed. This problem appears to affect a broad range of Galaxy models, including the S21, S22, S23, S24 series, and the Z Fold3.
One user noted that their Galaxy S24 Ultra now frequently displays the error, despite no physical changes to the SIM card. The message can pop up as many as four times per day. In some cases, the notification leads users to the Secure Folder app, prompting for a password and adding further confusion.
Common troubleshooting steps like cleaning the SIM contacts, reseating the card, or restarting the phone have done little to solve the issue. Some users have attempted disabling or removing apps from the Secure Folder, but results have been inconsistent.
A possible workaround has emerged from the Samsung community. One user suggested the following four-step method: go to Settings, open Brightness and Wallpaper, turn off Auto-Brightness, set the brightness to the lowest level, then toggle Airplane Mode on and off. This fix, reportedly recommended by Verizon, has helped some users eliminate the notification.
Although the workaround doesn’t solve the problem for everyone, several users have confirmed that it worked for them, even if they’re unsure why. The consistent timing of the issue, beginning right after the One UI 7 update, suggests it is a software-related bug.
Until Samsung provides an official fix, users may need to rely on this workaround or continue dismissing the notifications, knowing that the issue doesn’t affect their actual network connectivity.
